Who We Are

Tákem Marine Ltd., a First Nations-owned enterprise, which proudly operates in the local landscapes of the Lower Stl’atl’imx and Stó:lō peoples of south-western British Columbia. These include but are not inclusive to the waterbodies of Harrison Lake, Harrison River, Fraser River.

Our comprehensive range of on-the-water services includes contract work and resource management, as well as tailored tours and charters. We bring two decades of expertise in navigating the local rivers and waterways.

Our professional and knowledgeable crew are always continuing to adapt to meet customer needs while remaining true to our dedication to safety and quality of customer service.


Our Story

We came together based on a mutual appreciation for the outdoors, combined with the skills we’ve developed in our respective professional careers, inspired us to create a business that aligns with our shared values. We saw an opportunity to merge our love for recreational activities with our expertise to contribute meaningfully to land and resource management. By doing so, we aim to support individuals and organizations seeking sustainable solutions, offering services that reflect our commitment to the environment and our community.

Our logo symbolizes a balanced impeller where each blade represents an important sector of involvement for Tákem Marine Ltd., Conservation and Preservation, Natural Resource Response and Sustainable Tourism.

The word ‘Tákem‘ is derived from the Ucwalmícwts word which means ‘All‘. Ucwalmícwts is spoken by the Lower Lillooet peoples which originate in the Lillooet Lake, Lower Lillooet River and Harrison Lake areas.

Josh Alexander

Josh Alexander, Owner

I am a proud member of the Xa’xtsa (Douglas) First Nation, deeply connected to my traditional territory through formative experiences and community involvement. Growing up, I immersed myself in my culture and heritage, attending community meetings, sharing time with family, and exploring the rivers, lakes, forests, and mountains of our land.

With over 25 years of professional experience, I have worked with Indigenous governments, non-profit organizations, and businesses on a variety of initiatives. My work has included community projects, such as community planning and regional Land Resource Management Plans, as well as engagement efforts involving stakeholders from First Nations, Local, Provincial, and Federal governments, businesses, and consulting firms.

Since childhood, I have been driven by a passion for exploring the land and water around me, particularly within my traditional territory. Whether on the water or in the mountains, I spend my recreational time connecting with the natural world. I firmly believe that when people take the time to truly understand one another, they can come together to achieve shared goals and create meaningful solutions.

Jay Gibson

Jay Gibson, Operations

Born and raised in the Fraser Valley, I have spent many years living and working across various regions of British Columbia, gaining a deep appreciation for the province’s diverse landscapes and resources.

For the past 20 years, I have been a contracted vessel owner and operator, working on local rivers and lakes. My work has included guided and transportation charters, resource protection, fish data collection and studies. These experiences have fostered a strong commitment to monitoring, protecting, and sharing the many recreational resources our province has to offer.

Having witnessed firsthand the importance and value of preserving and managing these natural resources, I am passionate about contributing to their sustainability. In my spare time, I enjoy outdoor recreational activities with family and friends, continuing to explore and celebrate the beauty of British Columbia.

Fraser Valley Angling Guides Association

The Fraser Valley Angling Guides Association (FVAGA) is a volunteer organization run by and for Professional Angling Guides. Our mandate is to promote a high level of professionalism among angling guides and to ensure recreational fishers rights are protected and that angling opportunities are maintained.

Fraser River Sturgeon Conservation Society

As an environmental stewardship and research organization, the Fraser River Sturgeon Conservation Society (FRSCS) brings together a diverse community of stakeholders – leaders, all areas of government and First Nations, commercial and recreational fishing sectors, research and education – to work together and make a difference for Fraser River White Sturgeon. Priority areas include: mortality, habitat erosion, in-river fishery technology and recruitment of juvenile sturgeon.

B.C. Wildlife Federation

B.C. Wildlife Federation (BCWF) is British Columbia’s leading conservation organization, made up of volunteers who aim to protect, enhance and promote the wise use of our environment for the benefit of present and future generations. BCWF advocate for anglers, hunters, outdoor recreationists, firearms owners, and recreational shooters. The BCWF strives to ensure the sound long-term management of B.C.’s fish, wildlife, and outdoor recreational resources in the best interests of all British Columbians.

Our Credentials

Small Vessel Operator Proficiency

The Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) is Transport Canada approved for small vessel captains and crew. It covers minimum training for owners and operators of commercial vessels: Workboats and passenger vessels up to 5 GT (up to 8.5 meters in length), and fishing vessels of up to 15 GT (up to 12 meters in length), engaged on a Sheltered Waters or Near Coastal class 2 voyages (up to 25 Nautical Miles from shore).

Marine Emergency Duties

Marine Emergency Duties (MED-A3) is currently known as Small Domestic Vessel Basic Safety (SDVBS) and is a one day course concerned with emergencies on ships such as fire fighting, distress signals, man overboard, abandon ship and cold water shock/hypothermia.

Small Domestic Vessel Basic Safety (SDVBS) is a one day MED course required for crew on small vessels 5 ton or less (passenger and work boat) or 15 ton for commercial fishing, operating no more than 25 nautical Miles offshore.

SDVBS is all about safety and we use the latest memory enhancement and training techniques to make sure students have the skills to save themselves and passengers in emergency situations.

Restricted Radiotelephone Operators Certificate (Marine)

The Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Certificate – Marine (ROC-M) is a Canadian Federal government-issued card that allows us to operate a marine VHF radio. The ROC is required by anyone using a marine VHF radio or other marine radios

Marine Basic First Aid

Marine Basic First Aid is a comprehensive two-day course designed to meet the needs of those expected to provide first aid in a marine environment. Course uses a combination of lecture, discussion, and scenarios taken from the marine/fishing industry to teach the required knowledge and skills.  Course meets the requirements of Transport Canada outlined in Transport Publication (TP) 13008 E.
